Puget Sound tour... Split it up?

We're looking at this possibility: Go to Seattle in March 2012 with the choir... and to the Portland Rose Parade in June 2012 with Minico and Wendell's bands!

Mrs. Palmer REALLY wants to make the joint trip at spring break, and the Seattle Center would prefer we came in the spring as well. We could add some clinics at UW or Puget Sound to round out the trip and do it for less than the original spring tour budget.

Meanwhile, with the difficulty finding a weekend we can get away during marching season for our road-trip show in the fall of 2011... why couldn't we make the Portland Rose Festival our "road-trip" for the 2011-12 season? We could focus it on the marching band parts of the event rather than a mixture of choir and concert stuff... and run it the way the Ambush always runs its road trips. That's what the Magic Valley marching band was created for in the first place - this very trip!

Doable? Or too much within too short a time? Vote now, please!

  1. Like the idea, though I still think we should have a marching season trip in the fall, not wait until the end of school to go to the Rose Festival, and not have a trip during marching season. I like the idea of doing both, but ALSO (i believe it was Cali) our trip in the 2011 fall.

  2. i spent the last weekend in seattle WA and one thing that is going to cost the ambush is feeding the band. the tax is alot higher and on groups over 10 they charge an 18% gratuity fee. just a small warning. but on the other hand just as a suggestion, doing a concert exchange with any of the larger seattle schools would be a great experience. they are amazing, and the same goes for the choirs also.

  3. What would doing both cost? I think that, that is one of the biggest deciding factors for everyone. I am liking the idea. I think that if a good portion of people are willing to put in the deication, time, money, and hard work that this would require I think it would be very fun and it would be a great oppertunity.

I think the trip to Portland is the best, because that is what the band is about. The trip to Seattle is way to spendy to me for what will be done while there. As for the choir I don't think they should be a part of it. The only time they are a part of anything is when they want money and need help for their events. They don't participate with booster meetings(Not even Mrs. Palmer except to ask for stuff they need) I am all for togetherness, but they show no signs of willing to help others except themselves. So I don't think they should have any rewards from the music boosters money account since the band boosters and the band family are the ones that worked to earn it. If I were to see that change then I would be greatly for the choir to go, but until then I could care less if they do!!!!!
I am for the other schools to go to Portland, as long as they participate and work as hard as our band kids do. I do like the idea of hotels/motels best. So everybody gets a good night sleep and are able to shower more easily(privacy).
